GUDGUD BIO
Powerhouse girl group GUDGUD makes youthful music with lyrical melodies, luxurious harmonies and spectacular, expansive vocals. The trio’s multidimensional sound is a throwback to the lush, layered sound of ‘90s pop and R&B vocal ensembles, injected with an electrifying hard and glam rock edge that makes each of their songs shine. Together, prodigies GRACIOUS, KRISHELLE and AERIYAL set off a magical vibration that celebrates the joy and excitement of youth but reflects the many hours members devote to fine-tuning their technique and a musical maturity beyond their years. The incorporation of live instruments and the young women’s involvement in the songwriting and production process sets GUDGUD’s recordings apart from those of many of other R&B groups and helps them present vibrant, meaningful material that connects personally with audiences. Drawing inspiration from legendary bands like AC/DC and Kiss as well as hip-hop pioneers LL Cool J and Doug E Fresh, GUDGUD’s high-energy shows incorporate back-up dancers and instrumentalists and showcase their magnetic stage presence and otherworldly voices.
GUDGUD was originally launched as a six-month experiment by Jacksonville-based music entrepreneurs Michael Butler and Richard Johnson, who were looking to put together a teen group that could make music that was nostalgic, fresh and edgy and delivered a positive message. The first incarnations of the group garnered a healthy local buzz, but members did not click. Regardless the method used in constructing a group, the lack of chemistry can create problems that are impossible to overcome.
Artists may be extremely talented by themselves, but in a particular group they might not fit. GUDGUD has changed members several times like many groups before them, seeking the necessary “chemistry” that all successful groups must possess. GRACIOUS, KRISHELLE and AERIYAL all started out as back up dancers for GUDGUD. They were able to watch firsthand what to do and what not to do to build group chemistry by watching the past members in action. “Now it’s our turn and we are going to make the best of it” states Aeriyal.
The livewire lineup of GUDGUD has been making waves in the progressive R&B music world since its formation, performing for packed houses at venues throughout Florida and the southeast alongside a wide range of artists including Fantasia, Tamar Braxton, Chrisette Michele, Mali Music, Issa, Mindless Behavior, OMG Girlz, Diggy Simmons, Future, Anthony Lewis, The New Boyz, Doug E Fresh, Babyface and Jacob Latimore. GUDGUD’s original songs have been heard on mainstream radio, and the group has appeared on News 4 Jax and twice on Jacksonville’s First Coast News. Members also share GUDGUD’s underlying message of positivity with their peers by speaking to young people in schools and by supporting music and arts education through the I Love Music Foundation.
In April 2015, GUDGUD was selected out of 4,300 applicants as one of the featured artists in the House of Blues’ Bringin’ Down the House 2015 showcase held on the legendary stage at the Orlando House of Blues. GUDGUD has previously released two EPs and is in the process of recording a third. The group is in the studio working with producer Rey Reel (Beyoncé, Willi.a.am, Britney Spears, Drake, Mariah Carey) and Richard Johnson (Way 2 much, GRLSJSTWNT2HVFN and Wrapped around your finger). GUDGUD’s new EP will come out in August of 2016, with a supporting tour to follow.
